Folic Acid 5 mg : Each tablet contains 5 mg Folic Acid
Indications
How to use :
the doctor must always tell you how to use the medicine, but the usual dose is:
Folate-deficient megaloblastic anemia:
Adults and Children 1–17 years: 5 mg/day for 4 months. Doses up to 15 mg/day may be required in malabsorption state.
Children 1–11 months: Initially 500 micrograms/kg once daily (max per dose 5 mg) for up to 4 months, doses up to 10 mg/day may be required in malabsorption state.
Maintenance dosage: Dose should never be less than 0.1 mg/day.
Patients should be kept under close supervision.
Prevention of neural tube defects:
In females of childbearing potential at a low risk of conceiving a child with a neural tube defect: 400 micrograms daily, to be taken before conception and until week 12 of pregnancy.
In females of childbearing potential at a high risk of conceiving a child with a neural tube defect: 5 mg daily, to be taken before
conception and until week 12 of pregnancy.
Missed dose:
If you miss a dose of this medicine, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double doses.
Side effects :
Every medicine by the side of therapeutic effects may cause some adverse effects, although not everybody gets them. If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. This includes any possible side effect not listed in this leaflet:
Fever; general weakness or discomfort; reddened skin; shortness of breath; skin rash or itching; tightness in the chest; trouble breathing; wheezing.
