Vitamin D3 deficiency prevention and treatment

How to use :

The dose of this medicine will be different for different patients, and always the doctor tells how to use the medicine, but the usual dose is:

Vitamin D3 deficiency prevention:
Adults: One capsule monthly. 

Pediatrics: Use and dose must be determined by your doctor.

Elderly: Use and dose must be determined by your doctor.

Vitamin D3 deficiency treatment:
Adults: One capsule containing 50000 international units (IU) once a week for 8 weeks, then one capsule monthly as maintenance dose.
Children: Use and dose must be determined by your doctor.
Elderly: Use and dose must be determined by your doctor.

Missed dose:

If you miss a dose of medicine, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double doses.

 

Side effects :   

Every medicine by the side of therapeutic effects may cause some adverse effects, although not everybody gets them, if you experience contact your physician or pharmacist:
 

Early symptoms of overdose: Bone pain, constipation, diarrhea, drowsiness, dryness of mouth, headache (continuing), increased thirst, increase in frequency of urination (especially at night) or in amount of urine, irregular heartbeat, itching skin, loss of appetite, metallic taste, muscle pain, nausea or vomiting, unusual tiredness or weakness.

 

Late symptoms of overdose: Bone pain, calcium deposits in tissues outside of the bone, cloudy urine, drowsiness, increased sensitivity of eyes to light or irritation of eyes, itching of skin, loss of appetite, loss of sex drive, mood or mental changes, muscle pain, nausea or vomiting, protein in the urine, redness or discharge of the eye, eyelid, or lining of the eyelid,runny nose, weight loss.

Other side effects not listed may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, check with your healthcare professional.

Note:

  • This medicine has been prescribed for your present disease. Do not pass it on to others with same symptoms.
  • Tell your doctor before taking this medicine if you are taking any other prescription or non-prescription (over-the-counter) medicine.
  • If you are already taking a calcium supplement or any medicine containing calcium, make sure your health care professional knows.
  •  Tell your doctor about following conditions, before taking this medicine: heart or blood vessel disease, Kidney disease Sarcoidosis.
  •  You may need Vitamin D3 supplements if you are a strict vegetarian and/or have little exposure to sunlight
  • and do not drink vitamin D-fortified milk.
  •  Use this medicine on doctor's prescription in infants and children
  • If you have had any unusual or allergic reaction to this medicine or any other medicines, foods, dyes, preservatives tell your doctor.
  • In patients who use high doses of Vitamin D3 or have kidney disease, the plasma concentration of calcium should be monitored.
  •  Taking large amounts of Vitamin D3 over long periods may cause serious unwanted effects. Use of this medicine should be under medical care and the doctor should check the progress at regular visits.
  •  Do not take any nonprescription (over-the-counter [OTC]) medicine or dietary supplement that contains calcium, phosphorus, or vitamin D while you are taking any of these dietary supplements.
  • Swallow whole; do not crush or chew.
